Move over, polka. Lau Hawaiian Collective is a group of Twin Cities musicians dedicated to preserving and playing Hawaiian music. Yup, Hawaiian music in Minnesota.
At this family concert, they will tell stories and perform songs from their CD, “Wai: Hawaiian Fresh Water Songs,” a tribute to the Hawaiian concept of water as a symbol of love and life.
The Collective includes vocalist Kim Sueoka on ukulele, David Burk on guitar and lap steel, Rahn Yanes on bass, Dave Kapell on glass harp and ukulele, and Shahzore Shah on percussion and vocals. And Hawaii native Sueoka will teach everyone how to hula.
Performances are at 6:15 and 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 2136 Carter Ave. (at Chelmsford), St. Paul. Tickets are $7; 651-292-3268 or schubert.org
